I carefully translate your photograph into a design specifically created for the one-color linocut process, preserving the most important features, details, and character of the original image.
✦ Hand-carved linoleum block
Your design is carved by hand, one cut at a time, in my studio.
✦ 2 original hand-pulled prints
You will receive two signed and numbered original prints from your custom linocut.
✦ Your original carved block
If you choose to receive the original linoleum block, it will be sent to you after the commission is completed. My artist initials will remain carved into the block.
✦ Additional prints
Additional hand-pulled prints are available for $20–$60 each, depending on the size.
HOW IT WORKS
1. SEND ME YOUR PHOTO
Before ordering, send me the photograph you would like to use.
2. I REVIEW YOUR PHOTO
I will check the lighting, composition, contrast, and level of detail and let you know whether the photograph is suitable for linocut.
I will also recommend the appropriate block size and provide you with a quote.
3. APPROVE & PAY THE DEPOSIT
Once you approve the quote, I will send you a contract to sign. A 20% non-refundable deposit is required before I begin working on your commission.
4. I CREATE, CARVE & PRINT
I transform your photograph into a linocut design, carefully adapting it for the carving process. Once the design is completed, you will have one opportunity to request a free revision before I begin carving. After the design is approved and the linoleum block has been carved, no further changes can be made. I then hand-print your linocut using my portable printing press.
5. YOUR ARTWORK IS READY
Once your artwork is completed, the remaining balance, plus shipping and applicable taxes, is due.
You will receive two signed and numbered original prints, with the option to receive the original carved linoleum block as well.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT PHOTO
Not every photograph translates well into linocut.
The best photographs usually have good lighting, clear shapes, strong contrast, and an interesting composition. Very small or highly detailed photographs can be difficult to reproduce at a small block size.
If your photograph contains a lot of detail, I may recommend a larger block so that important features can be preserved.
Please send me your photograph before placing an order. I will review it and recommend the best size for your commission.
I reserve the right to decline photographs that are not suitable for this technique.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
Minimum block size: 4 × 6 inches
The price is based on the size of the linoleum block, rather than the number of people or objects in the photograph.
$6 CAD × block size in square inches
For example:

4 × 6 in block = 24 sq. in. × $6 = $144 CAD (+ tax and shipping)

6 × 8 in block = 48 sq. in. × $6 = $288 CAD (+ tax and shipping)
A larger block allows me to include more detail and is often recommended for photographs with intricate features.
Your final quote will be confirmed after I review your photograph and recommend the appropriate block size.
Please note: Once the linoleum block has been carved, changes to the design are no longer possible. I will work with you to finalize the design before carving begins.
A 20% non-refundable deposit is required to begin your commission. The remaining balance is due when the artwork is completed.
Shipping, applicable taxes, and any customs duties or tariffs are additional and are calculated based on the destination.
COPYRIGHT & PERSONAL USE
If you would like to receive the original carved linoleum block, please let me know before I begin carving. My artist initials will be carved into the block as part of the original artwork.
Purchasing the physical block does not transfer copyright or commercial reproduction rights.
You are welcome to enjoy your artwork for personal use, and additional prints may be made from the original block for personal use.
Commercial use—including selling reproductions or prints, creating merchandise, licensing the image, publishing it, or using it for commercial advertising or promotional purposes—requires my prior written permission and may involve an additional licensing fee.
Because your linocut is created from your photograph, you are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights or permission to use the photograph.
CAN I SHARE YOUR COMMISSION?
I love sharing the artwork I create and may photograph and display completed commissions in my portfolio, on my website, and on social media for artistic, promotional, and educational purposes.
If you would like your commission to remain private, please let me know before I begin the artwork. An additional privacy fee may apply.
